"Important Gauge": German Women's Basketball Team Tests in Italy

The German women's basketball team has one final test match in Italy before the European Championship, marking their first appearance in twelve years.

Head coach Lisa Thomaidis finally has her full squad available for the test match in Italy before the European Championship that begins in Slovenia on Thursday.

For the first time this summer, Svenja Brunckhorst, and Sonja Greinacher, who had previously missed out due to their participation in the 3x3 World Cup, will be part of the squad. "They will need some time, but with their experience, knowledge, and leadership, they are great additions," said Thomaidis ahead of Sunday's match in Pordenone (8:00 p.m.) and the upcoming European Championship. "We are very happy to have them. The test match against Italy will be an important gauge for us."

After the Italy game, the German team travels to Slovenia on Monday. In the group stage, the selection of the German Basketball Federation faces favorites France, host Slovenia, and Great Britain. "Our aim is to get out of the group," said Thomaidis. For this purpose, at least third place is needed to compete for a spot in the quarter-final in a cross-playoff with the second-placed team in Group D.
