Press Reviews on Djokovic's Victory at the French Open
Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic beat Norwegian Casper Ruud 7-6 (7-1), 6-3, 7-5 to win the French Open in Paris and claim his 23rd title at a major tournament, surpassing Spain's Rafael Nadal. Djokovic also reclaimed his position as world number one from Spain's Carlos Alcaraz. Here's what international newspapers are saying:
Great Britain
"The Times": "After his 23rd major title, there is no doubt - Novak Djokovic is the greatest of all time."
France
"L'Equipe": "The Serbian has made history as the first player to win 23 Grand Slam titles. An historic record, based largely on winning the first set of the deciding match on Sunday and his royal control in the six contested and won tiebreaks at Roland Garros."
Spain
"Marca": "The debate over who is the greatest tennis player of all time is now over."
Italy
"Gazzetta dello Sport": "Djokovic (...): 23 Slam titles, more than any other male player in history, 388 weeks as world number one and ready to move towards 400. Casper Ruud tried with all his physical and mental strength to counter the Serbian phenomenon."
Austria
"Kronen Zeitung": "Historic! (...) Even opponent Rafael Nadal bowed to the sole record holder."
Switzerland
"Blick": "Three hours and 13 minutes of battle, agony, but also a lot of class. Novak Djokovic (36) wins a sometimes highly spectacular French Open final against Casper Ruud (24) 7-6 (7-1), 6-3, 7-5 - and withstands all pressure."
