Trump Displayed Confidential Document Outlining Plans to Attack Iran to Staff, CNN Reports
CNN claims to have obtained an audio recording in which former US President Donald Trump reveals confidential information about a plan to attack Iran while showing his staff members a classified document.
According to the report, CNN obtained the audio recording from a meeting that took place in Bedminster, New Jersey in 2021. The meeting involved individuals working on memoirs for former advisor Mark Meadows and two of his staff members.
"He said, 'I want to attack Iran, isn't that surprising? I have a big stack of papers, this just came out. Look at this. It was him. They gave me this - it's not for the record, but - they presented this to me. It was him. It was the Department of Defense, and he... This is highly confidential,'" the audio recording provided by the television channel reveals.
Trump and his staff members also made jokes about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's emails.
"Hillary was constantly printing them out. Her personal emails," one of the former president's staff members said.
Earlier in Miami, during a court hearing, law enforcement officials charged Trump and his aide, Walt Naught, with mishandling classified documents and obstructing justice on 38 counts.
The former head of state refused to admit guilt on any of the charges. The court released the politician and his aide without any conditions, without setting bail or imposing travel restrictions, including international trips. In his first comment on the matter, Trump referred to this day as "one of the saddest" in US history. The charges brought against him carry a potential prison sentence of up to 400 years.
