US Basketball Player Griner Selected for All-Star Game
Formerly detained in Russia, American basketball player Brittney Griner will participate in the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) All-Star Game.
The 32-year-old athlete from the Phoenix Mercury was chosen by fans, media representatives, and players. It will be her ninth appearance in the showcase event featuring the most popular and skilled players, taking place on July 15 in Las Vegas. Last year, she was unable to attend due to her imprisonment in Russia, and the players wore jerseys with Griner's number 42 in the second half of the game as a show of support.
Griner has returned to the basketball court this season. She was sentenced in Russia on drug possession charges and spent ten months in prison. The Olympic champion was released as part of a prisoner exchange, and US President Joe Biden also advocated for her freedom.
