68 Arrested in Anti-Mafia Operation

Italian police have once again cracked down on the Calabrian Mafia, with 68 individuals being arrested. All of them are suspected of working for the 'Ndrangheta and are believed to have been involved in drug trafficking and extortion.

In a large-scale operation against organized crime, 68 alleged mobsters have been arrested in Italy. They are suspected of having ties to the Calabrian Mafia, 'Ndrangheta, according to the Carabinieri.

Many of the individuals are accused of being involved in international drug trafficking using mafia methods. Numerous suspects are also accused of committing additional crimes such as extortion and assault.

Assets Confiscated

Most of the arrested individuals have been sent to prison, while the rest have been placed under house arrest. During the operation, media reports state that several prominent members of two notorious clans were also apprehended in Cassano allo Ionio, Calabria, and other towns in the southern Italian province of Cosenza.

These two formerly rival clans reportedly formed an alliance in recent years to divide the territory for their alleged criminal activities within the province. Additionally, assets with a total value of around five million euros have been seized.

Drug and Arms Trade as Business Fields

Italian authorities repeatedly take action against various clans of organized crime in the southern part of the country. The 'Ndrangheta, rooted in Calabria, the "toe" of the Italian boot, dominates the international drug trade.

However, the organization also profits from arms trafficking, money laundering, and corruption. Over the past decades, it has managed to expand its influence further into northern Italy.
