"The Breakthrough in Paris": Zverev Looks Confidently towards Wimbledon Alexander Zverev feels ready for great achievements. The tennis Olympic champion wants to go back to where he has been before and win the biggest tournaments. After reaching the semi-finals at the French Open, Alexander Zverev is fired up for the grass-court classic at Wimbledon. Following his serious foot injury, the 26-year-old now sees himself ready for great feats.
"To be honest, the breakthrough happened in Paris," Zverev said in an interview with "Sports Illustrated." "After my injury, I always said that I needed this one result, and I achieved it with my semi-final at Roland Garros."
"Number 1 in the World": Zverev Sets High Goals
For the remainder of the season, Zverev no longer has any points to defend in the tennis world rankings because he could not compete in tournaments in the second half of 2022 due to his injury. The path to the top is now clear for the Hamburg native. Zverev still has great ambitions, as he was the world number two before his injury. "I want to win Grand Slam tournaments and become the number 1 in the world. Those are my big goals," Zverev said.
"Last year, I came close. I just needed to win one more match in the following three months after Paris, no matter which tournament. It was not easy for me to accept," Zverev said.
