Swedish Basketball Player Apologizes to the Nation for Joining CSKA Moscow
Swedish forward Jonas Jerebko has stated that he regrets his decision to join the Moscow basketball club CSKA. In March 2022, Jerebko signed a contract with the team until the end of the season and was subsequently excluded from the Swedish national team by the Swedish Basketball Federation (SBBF). In June of that same year, after playing in 16 games in the VTB United League, he left Russia and has been without a club ever since.
"I want to apologize to the Swedish people. I made the wrong choice; I was only thinking about basketball, and that was wrong. I haven't played for a year and a half, and I just wanted to play. Looking back, I would never have done this. I regret it," Jerebko told SVT Sport.
Jerebko is 36 years old. In addition to CSKA, he has also played for the Moscow Region-based team "Khimki" in Russia. Prior to that, he played for the National Basketball Association (NBA) clubs "Detroit," "Boston," "Utah," and "Golden State."
