Supercup Final: Tough Test for Basketballers against Canada

For the second time in a few days, Germany's basketball team will face the strong Canadians. Dennis Schröder and his teammates aim to remain undefeated and celebrate another victory on their way to the World Cup.

On their journey to the World Cup in Japan, the German basketball team faces another tough test in the Supercup Final in Hamburg. After the uninformative 107-58 victory against weak Chinese opponents on Saturday evening, Dennis Schröder and his teammates will face Canada today (6:30 PM/Magentasport).

In the previous Wednesday's match, the German team was pushed to their limits by the Canadian team, which is filled with NBA professionals, resulting in a close 86-81 victory in Berlin. "And now they have had a few days and a few more training sessions," said national coach Gordon Herbert. "It will be a beautiful basketball game," said the Canadian coach before the duel with the national team from his home country.

"Every game is crucial"

Against China, the German team thrilled the 3,400 spectators in the sold-out arena with a spectacular offensive performance at times. In addition, the German Basketball Federation's selection played robust and focused defense against the Asian opponents who are also qualified for the World Cup. "We corrected some mistakes from the Canada game on Wednesday, which was good," said Herbert.

Strong player Maodo Lo was also satisfied, even though Germany was hardly challenged. "We are still in the testing phase, and every game is crucial. We need to perform well in all areas to be where we want to be in two weeks," said the point guard, who received significant playing time, especially in the second half.

World Cup starts on August 25th

After the second matchup against Canada, Schröder and his teammates will have two more days off before heading to Abu Dhabi on Wednesday. There, they will have two more test matches against title contenders the USA and Greece over the upcoming weekend. The World Cup will then begin on August 25th in Okinawa with a match against co-host Japan. Other group stage opponents include Finland and Australia.
